Explanation of Votes- Strasbourg, November 2015

Accession to the Extended Commission of the Convention for the Conservation of Southern Bluefin TunaRecommendation:  Carlos Iturgaiz (A8-0318/2015)

I voted in favour of this proposal, which will allow the EU to become a full member of the Extended Commission of the CCSBT. I welcome EU efforts to ensure international conservation measures are met; these conservation measures are essential to protecting stocks of Southern Bluefin Tuna and making sure it does not become endangered.

Insurance mediation Supplementary report:  Werner Langen (A8-0315/2015)

I was pleased to support this agreement on the 'Insurance Distribution Directive'. These new rules will cover general insurance products, including car insurance and also life insurance and they will ensure clearer information and greater choice for consumers when buying insurance products. Conservative MEPs have worked hard to ensure that this legislation will deliver clear advantages for consumers, whilst minimising the burdens on insurance retailers.

Cohesion policy and marginalised communities Report:  Terry Reintke (A8-0314/2015)

Whilst I am able to support a handful of positive elements in this report, such as the call for more detailed information on ESIF take-up (para 5), the principles of equality and non-discrimination (para 8), prioritising the needs of children (para 14) and support for training and SMEs (para 46), I reject the suggestion that it is the EU's responsibility to tackle social disparities, poverty and exclusion in Member States. It is not. Social, health, employment, education, housing and planning policies are areas of Member State competence and should remain so.
